The Hydro Active Women’s Challenge 2007 took place today - 16 September 07 at Hyde Park London and was much better organised this year! The runners had space to manoeuvre in the different categories ie 35 minutes plus - the category I chose and I did it in 30 minutes - not bad considering I ran the 5k run in an hour last year.
Quite a few celebrities including Fatima Whitbread, Jo Brand the Comedian, an actress from Hollyoaks, Kylie from Eastenders amongst others, were running for charities of their choice. Linda from Birds of a Feather started the runners off. BBC London did their bit too.
I ran for Contact A Family and contributed £20 to my online Justgiving website,
www.justgiving.com/caf07
It’s such a worthy cause and worth looking into.

when tennis for me meant seeing a good game where a game lasted more than 10 minutes - now the players are so powerful you wonder where the line manager is…
Anyone for Pimms?
Definitely with cucumber. Well at 15, you can’t be choosy and at 17 you just want the Pimms!
Well served and well, bring back those real tennis balls, will you? And servers!

The blanket cover
pale as the haze on a morn
is a blanket with mist
perceived;
the gaze into blankness
stretches over a covering
which extends into a glazed
paraphenalia of unknown
objects, floating as the light
shines from a lamp which
guzzles what lies ahead

Every so often, staring into space can be habit forming and enlightening; looking around on the off chance can also be interesting and inspirational for composing the next poem.

Life would be much more fun if we could laze about, do zilch and feel good about it - now if that were the case I think life would be wonderful.
Embittered
Why?
I don’t wish to divulge my art
I don’t want to tell you socialites how I feel
I don’t particularly wish to be a part of
statistics which
says how much I can reveal in 2 minutes
I want to keep my secrets within
I want to feel awful and pretend to feel
good
I want to be me in a natural world
where no one asks what I’m doing at the weekend
Why?
I don’t feel like telling you socialites I’ve
been
to an art exhibition
I don’t feel like divulging my interests
I don’t feel too good about discussing
anything
I just want to curl up and vegetate,
hibernate,
laze about
do anything but reveal what I’d like to do
if I were allowed to
if the opportunity arose
if I could
if I felt
if I dared

A poem which inspired this poem is:
The Keeper Of Secrets by Dean J Baker
My comment is as follows:
Sad note to end on in this profound write - a nice poem to digest and comprehend. The last line though is baffling - it’s as if the secrets held within manifests itself in a rage of tears. Interesting thought, that.
=======================
Somehow secrets have a way of manifesting themselves either through tears or pain and possible heartache, then where do we stand?
Now, for that 3 o’clock appointment with the hairdressers, I need some new layers….

1. Observations - people, surroundings, situation, life, cultures and the ‘inner’ self
2. Practicalities - Experiences both personal and general, a daily journal either in weblog form or a diary
3. Connecting with other poets and writers - An invaluable asset
4. Publishing in monthly magazines and booklets - best resource to be read and to have others appreciate your efforts
5. Literary forums - an additional asset to read and be read
6. A brainstorming session - to lay out ideas and ‘visions’ to then re-arrange and ’structure’ into a verse form which can be:
haphazard;
organised as a couplet or in stanzas;
an ode, epic, prose;
limerick;
haiku
The above are just some ideas of the shape a poem can take but a variation of the above can make for an authentic and interesting write and read.
Weaving a poem is like creating a delicately woven pattern which acquires its shape through the web of connected ideas which then take on a different imagery, when seen from different angles. Angling to get that perspective right is entirely subjective.
