A Gallery’s show ‘Fire Skies and Electric Seas’ tonight (Thurs, 28 June) featured the works of Chris Parks and Graham Milton, two top UK artists, of which Circumvent 1 by Chris Parks caught my attention
Chris Parks:
His abstract paintings are ethereal in effect and vividly conveyed;
His unique vision is fluid and his paintings capture light and movement dynamically
His work is ‘unparalleled in its fluidity, movement and subtlety.’ (As quoted by A Gallery )
Graham Milton:
His landscapes are inspired by memories of skyscapes;
His interpretation of the relationship between the sun and earth show an interesting combination ;
The majority of his landscapes focus on the start and the end of the day
According to A Gallery, Milton says:
‘there is something quite humbling and inspiring about the vast natural beauty of the sky at sunrise and sunset’
I agree with A Gallery that there is a Turner influence in his landscape paintings. A Gallery also mentions the influences of the abstract expressionism of Rothko, adding,
Milton, ‘uses the techniques of the Old Masters - underpainting and layering of colour glazes’.
Precisely so, though I don’t recall seeing any of Rothko’s works but certainly abstract expressionism features heavily in the Milton paintings I saw tonight.

The exhibition of the works by the two artists mentioned was extraordinary in the layout of the artwork, the arrangements of the work and the juxtaposition of each painting to demonstrate the quality of each to its best effect. Another contemporary painting caught my attention:-
Autumn Nude by Valeryia Steadman, Acrylic on canvas, in the warm colours and figure of a nude girl lying on a bed by a wall heater with the subtle hint of laced see-through underwear framing the body contours exquisitely.
The exhibition showed a good selection of sculptures and paintings by other up and coming artists in contemporary art.
